The relationship between you and your loved one will undoubtedly now be different; some things will be uncomfortable. Hard questions need to be asked and even harder decisions made. It won’t always be easy – when you’ve looked at your loved one in a certain way for so long, it can be difficult to see their situation change so drastically. Here are some tips to help with the transition:
- Advocate for your loved one, and respect the wishes that your loved one may have expressed to you; while also understanding that long ago expressed wishes may change. And once the decisions are made, return again to being the son, daughter, or spouse of your loved one.
- Insure that you understand your loved one’s financial situation.
- Consistently communicated with and visit your loved one. Only through such communication will everyone recognize grace in the ultimate hard decisions that have to be made.
